Manchester City Sweating On Yaya Toure's Fitness

Manchester City are working to get midefielder Yaya Toure fit for their champions league clash against Real Madrid.

The player has been ruled out of their clash with Southampton on Sunday afternoon.

The two sides are set to lock horns in an English Premier League (EPL) encounter at the St Mary's Stadium in Hampshire.

The Ivory Coast international sustained a thigh muscle injury during City's 4-0 home victory over Stoke City in a league match last weekend.

"Yaya starts working today - we'll see the way he improves through the weekend - we'll see if he's fit on Wednesday. He has some option," Pellegrini said on Friday.

Injured Toure missed the Citizens' goalless draw with Spanish giants Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League semi-final first-leg clash in Manchester on Tuesday.

However, the 32-year-old central midfielder now looks set for a late fitness test ahead of Wednesday night's second-leg encounter in Madrid.

The lanky midfielder won the 2008/09 UEFA Champions League with Spanish giants FC Barcelona
