BAYERN CLING TO A FOOTBALLING MIRACLE

BAYERN CLING TO A FOOTBALLING MIRACLE

Bayern's players, backroom staff and directors all dined together at their hotel after last Wednesday's game. After dinner, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge spoke to those present. "It's really tough to lose 3-0, especially when the players have fought like heroes. This situation isn't that different to what we went through recently in Porto. Back then, very few people thought we had a chance. It's true that Barcelona aren't Porto, but sometimes footballing miracles do happen", said the Bayern president.
His words reflected the general feeling within the dejected club. Everyone at Bayern knows that it is going to be nigh on impossible to turn the tie around, especially against a team of Barcelona's calibre, characterised by their lethal attacking football. Despite that, they will use anything they can as inspiration to pull off a miracle.
Bayern are going to base their tactics on the recent tie against Porto. The Bavarian side lost 3-1 at the O Dragao stadium. Not many people thought they would be able to come back from that defeat. However, they were unstoppable in the return leg. They turned the tie around inside just 27 minutes and went on to win the game 6-1.
The Allianz Arena has never been a happy hunting ground for Barcelona. They have played three Champions League games there, losing two and drawing another. They only managed a single goal in those games. Keeping a clean sheet is going to be crucial for a Bayern comeback. The last time Barcelona played in Bayern's back yard they lost heavily (4-0) and the Germans are clinging to those stats as they plot their comeback.
