Shehu Blasts PDP Over Statements About Declining Economy

The authorities responded to the Peoples Democratic Party criticismregarding the purported decline economy since Muhammadu Buhari’s inauguration.
According to Channels TV, Garba Shehu, the presidential special assistant on media and publicity, characterized the PDP’s move as a mere attempt to play-down Buhari’s achievements.
Firing back at the opposition party, the presidency insisted that is was the PDP-led administration that had plunged Nigeria into poverty.
“It is ridiculous for any sane government to artificially rebase the economy and claim to transform Nigeria into the largest economy in Africa as the PDP administration did.”
Moreover, Shehu accused the former ruling party of artificially manipulating statistics to create the illusion of impressive economic performance. The official noted that Buhari’s government has already blocked leakages and other avenues for corruption, which the PDP administration had not done for years.
As Buhari has marked 100 days in the office, Nigerians continue discussing his performance, the ups and downs of his first three months in the position of the president and the adherence to the election campaign promises.
Some expressed satisfaction with the current state of affairs, while the others criticized the presidency: either over distancing self from some of the promises or over the failure to have appointed the ministers. The supporters, however, urge Nigerians to remain patient, saying that change is not made so swiftly.
