Lionel Messi's second goal, a work of art

Lionel Messi's second goal, a work of art

Wonderful messi

Pep Guardiola had said as much before the game had started: you can't stop Messi's talent.

In the end, the Bayern manager was proved right. He was kept in check for a time, but when the Argentine wizard thought that enough was enough, he unleashed his magic.

Barcelona were having a hard time of it in the second half. Bayern were better positioned than the 'Azulgranas' and were more in control of the game. Messi wasn't really having a good game, being kept on a short leash by the Germans' defence, who made sure that he had no room for manoeuvre. The Barça forward, try as he might, was not getting a look-in.

With just 15 minutes of play left, things were not looking good for Luis Enrique's men. Until Messi decided to take matters into his own hands – or in his case, feet. He took a fine pass from Alves who had previously robbed the ball off a Bayern midfielder and dribbled the ball upfield until he reached the edge of the box. The perfectly aimed strike he let go went like a rocket into the left corner; Neuer didn't stand a chance. With the Bayern defence now breached, the best was soon to come.

Just when the Camp Nou was still raving about his first goal, Messi did something that many would have thought impossible – he bettered it, with a touch of magic he alone can conjure. He received a pass from Rakitic and turned towards goal. Facing up to Boateng, his slinky moves left the defender on the floor. Neuer was quick to rush out to put a stop to the Argentine's antics but was out-played by a divine and cheeky little chip, the ball sailing over his head and into the back of the net. A work of art fit to be framed. Poetry in motion.
