President Muhammadu Buhari, on Friday, June 26, dissolved the board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
The notice was given to the board through a letter signed by Danladi Kifasi, head of the civil service of the federation.
Femi Adesina, presidential aide, told Sahara Reporters that: “you can’t make changes without having new leadership” and that Buhari remainscommitted to cleaning up the system, and wants accountability and transparency in the oil industry.”
The 9 members of the dissolved board are:
Dr. Joseph T. Dawha – Group Managing Director
Mr. Bernard O.N. Otti – Group Executive Director, FINANCE & Accounts
Dr. Dan Efebo Group Executive Director, Corporate Services
Alhaji Abdullahi Bukar – Member
Mr. Danladi Wadzani – Member
Prof. Olusegun Okunnu – Member
Mr. Danladi Kifasi – Member
Mr. Steven Oronsaye – Member
Ikechukwu Oguine – Coordinator, Legal Services/ Secretary to the Corporation
However, reports have emerged that the president might appoint himself as the petroleum minister.
A political associate of the president, who spoke to Reuters said:“Nigeria’s oil sector is so dirty that nobody’s hands are clean enough to do the surgical changes needed.”
