Rampaging Boko Haram members have attacked Mainok village on the outskirts of Maiduguri, the Borno state capital killing 25 persons.
It was learnt that militants stormed the village around 5:30 pm and spent about four hours killing civilians unchallenged. The attacked village is about 45 kilometers away from Maiduguri and located in the Konduga local government area, Sahara Reporters say.
Sources at the scene of the incident said that the sect destroyed an estimated 30 vehicles and burned down hundreds of homes.
A resident who fleed his home, Ali Muhammadu, confirmed that about 25 civilians were slaughtered. He said the terrorists also destroyed properties in the wake of the attack. He explained Boko Haram also attacked drivers along the Maiduguri-Damaturu road way, killing many of them. ‘‘We have buried some but some were burnt beyond recognition,” he stated.
A member of the a civilian JTF, Ba’na Umar, said about 25 bodies were taken from the Mainok village area this morning.
Umar said: “many people are still missing, [and] we don’t know the whereabouts of some of our teenagers.”
The spate of bombings and killing of civilians in their homes and places of worship by Boko Haram has continued unabated since the the present administration assumed office despite promises that the sect will be dislodged in the shortest time. The sect has changed tactics by using suicide bombers in their renewed onslaught on the Nigeria state.
The sect detonated a bomb just few minutes that vice president, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo paid unannounced visit to Borno state leading to the death of many.
