Akpabio Endorsed As Senate Minority Leader By PDP

The immediate past governor of Akwa Ibom state, Godswill Akpabio has been reportedly endorsed as the Senate Minority leader.
According to Vanguard report, the Senator representing Akwa Ibom North West was endorsed by Southern Senators elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday, July 27.
The Senate minority leader seat was zoned to the South-South by the PDP. It was gathered that Senators  James Manager from Delta and George Sekibo from Rivers were the frontrunners for the position.
However, Akpabio’s interest for the seat threw the South-South caucus into crisis.
Ahead of plenary which resumes on Tuesday, the Senators were said to have dropped the issue of ranking as contained in the Senate Standing Orders 2015 as Amended.
There were rumours that the Senate president, Bukola Saraki, was planning to install Akpabio as the Senate minority leader.
Report had surfaced some days ago that Akpabio may have shelved his ambitions to become the Senate minority leader following mounting pressure.
