About 41 members of the All Progressives Congress in Akwa Ibom state have been suspended over misconduct and anti-party activities.
This was announced on Wednesday, July 23, by the newly elected publicity secretary of the party, Mr. Ita Awak, This Day reports.
He said the party arrived at the decision during a meeting of its state executive committee held at the APC secretariat on July, 20.
Among those suspended were the former chapter chairmen of Essien Udim; Ikot Ekpene; Obot Akara; Onna; Uyo; Etim Ekpo; Ibiono Ibom; Itu; and Ini local government areas as well as former deputy chapter chairman of Nsit Ibom Local Government Area; former youth leaders in Ini and Nsit Ibom.
Awak said: “Following the submission of the report of the Disciplinary Committee of the APC, Akwa Ibom State, and upon the ratification and consideration of the said report, the party found the accused capable of allegations levelled against them.
“The allegations include anti-party activities, disobedient in carrying out lawful directives of the party, giving wrong information to organ of the party, factionalising and creating parallel party, organ, among others.”
He added that the conduct of those suspended contravened Section 21 (ii-vii) of the party’s constitution as amended.
Some weeks back, the APC in Gombe state suspended its state chairman, Barrister Magaji Doho and 17 other members of the party for anti-party activities.
Also at the federal level, the party is experiencing some challenges and disunity following the emergence of Senator Bukola Saraki as Senate president and Yakubu Dogara as speaker of the House of Representatives against the party’s wish.
However, the the chairman of the party,Chief John Odigie-Oyegun has said they are presently working to resolve the issue
