President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, July 24, met with the House of Representatives lawmaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, in Aso Rock, Abuja.
It should be recalled that Gbajabiamila was the candidate preferred by the All Progressives Congress for the green chamber leadership. However, Yakubu Dogara was elected the speaker by the senators, despite the clearly specified position of the party. The situation caused tension in the National Assembly, which persists till the moment.
According to The Punch, on Friday it was the second time Gbajabiamila had met with President Buhari so far. Unlike during the first encounter, Buhari hosted the lawmaker alone, without other colleagues, this time.
Neither of the politicians gave comments to the journalists following the brief closed-door meeting. Gbajabiamila said he was in a hurry to see APC national chairman John Odigie-Oyegun.
Meanwhile, the NASS resumption, initially scheduled for July 21, was extended by one week. A source disclosed that the move was made to avert another crisis in the political formation.
