In wake of President Muhammadu Buhari’s DIRECTIVE that the Command and CONTROL Centre of the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) should relocate to Maiduguri, the core centre of the Boko Haram insurgency in the North-east, authorities of the Nigerian Army have disclosed its next line of action.
According to the Nigerian Army, the directive given by President Buhari was strictly adhered to, The Nation reports.
This was disclosed at a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, July 1.
It was gathered that as part of its PLANS to boost the morale of the troops, authorities of the Army said the grand finale of this year’s edition of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration would take place in Maiduguri.
Brig. Gen. Donald Oji, who spoke on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Kenneth Minimah, however said the celebration wouldn’t be ostentatious.
“The CHOICE of Maiduguri to host the closing activities of NADCEL 2015 was informed by the need to further raise the morale of our troops in the area of operation by showing solidarity to them and to further reassure the people in the Northeast of Nigeria, particularly Borno State of the renewed determination of the Nigerian Army to end the insurgency in that zone,” Gen. Oji said.
The celebrations which started on Wednesday will also include a medical outreach programme for the INTERNALLY Displaced Persons’ camps in Maiduguri from July 4-5.
The Nigerian army’s statement comes just hours after the Director of Defence Information, Nigeria, Major General Chris Olukolade lamented the difficulty of the Nigerian military in getting the support of Nigerians in performing their duties.
