The governor directed the assigned chairmen and caretaker
committees for local government councils in the state to sack all ghost
workers in the state.
The governor warned that all LG chairmen must reside in their councils or face the sack adding that his government does not plan to tamper with the funds generated by the LG councils.
He said: “If your internally generated revenue and federation account allocation cannot pay your salary, you must do what you need to do so as not to have more people than you need.”
El-Rufai tasked the chairmen to work closely with traditional institutions to tackle crime and violence in their areas.
He continued: “As soon as you settle down, we want you to document all encroachments into public land.
“Any encroachment on school land, hospital and public institutions should be documented and report back to us within two weeks.
“This government will not accept encroachment into school or hospital land, it is our intention to reverse all those encroachments.”
The governor also said, rural and community development programmes under the Deputy Governor have been inaugurated and says all local councils work “in an interconnected and integrated manner.”
According to the governor, the All Progressives Congress (APC) had pinpointed 10 priority areas in each local government which must be given prominence.
Local councils must set up water and sanitation departments to enhance healthcare and protect forests to keep the environment healthy. He also said sustainable energy must by promoted.
The governor begged the governors to shun “any god father, ward, ethnic group or religious persuasion.”
There were reports yesterday that, youths in Kaduna protested the inauguration of one the Chairmen El-Rufai appointed.

Youths embarked on a road blockade to protest the appointment of Hajiya Hadiza Yahuza as interim chairman of Chikun local government of the state.
They blocked the roads leading to the local government’s headquarters thereby causing heavy snarl-up depriving road users from passing through to their various destinations. The tension led to armed policemen applying tear-gas to dissipate the protesting youths.
