PDP, APC In War Of Words Over Fayemi

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) were engaged in war of words over alleged moves to prosecute Kayode Fayemi, a former governor of Ekiti state, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Vanguard reports that the PDP accused the APC leadership of preventing the EFCC from prosecuting Fayemi.
In a statement issued by Jackson Adebayo, the state’s publicity secretary of the PDP, the party alleged that some APC leaders were planning to approach President Muhammadu Buhari through his closets men in a attempt to shield Fayemi from arrest and prosecution.
“It has come to our notice that there is a sinister motive by the leaderships of the All Progressive Congress to put pressure on the presidency to halt the investigation of the former APC governor by the EFCC when it dawned on them that the various petitions before the EFCC on the financial mismanagement of the APC administration in Ekiti state between 2010 and 2014 can not be ignored again by the anti graft body in its current moves against past governors,” the party said.
Leadership reports that Taiwo Olatunbosun, the APC spokesman, described the PDP allegation as distraction.
“The Fayose government is not only fraudulent, but milking Ekiti state and distracting the attention of the EFCC. We have enough evidence to nail Fayose and EFCC is already beaming its searchlight on him,” he said.
In his reaction Olayinka Oyebode, the chief press secretary to Fayemi, said:
“I think the PDP-led government in the state is merely hallucinating. Fayemi ran one of the most responsible and corruption-free government not only in Ekiti state but in the country. He has been out of office for nine months and has not been invited by any anti-corruption agency be it EFCC, SFU or ICPC to answer any query on his government in Ekiti. His government was completely above board unlike Ayo Fayose, who apart from his EFCC’s N1.3billion poultry fraud case is also facing an indictment from the Code of Conduct Bureau for lying on oath in his asset declaration form in 2003”.
Meanwhile, Femi Bamisile, the Ekiti state House of Assembly and the APC chieftain, has stated that the party is poised to reclaim the state from the PDP.
He  said that the loss of the state to Governor Ayodele Fayose in the 2014 governorship election under Kayode Fayemi’s administration is a temporary setback stressing that the party would bounce back .
