President Muhammadu Buhari has lamented the position of Nigeria in terms of development and promises to create an enabling environment for entrepreneurs to thrive.
In a statement by Mr. Femi Adesina, the special adviser to the president on media and publicity, the president promised to shun all policies that were hindering the development of business in the nation.
Punch reports that this was made known during a meeting with the special adviser and the permanent secretary of the federal ministry of industry, trade and investment, Abdulkadir Musa, and senior officials of agencies under the ministry.
The president said that generating employment was one of his key campaign promises.
“With high interest rates and entrepreneurs needing trillions of naira to buy machinery, we are virtually back at ground zero as far as industrial development is concerned.
“So, we will shun all anti-development policies and make the climate more suitable for entrepreneurs. We will create the environment for them to thrive. Generating employment was one of our key campaign promises and we will keep that promise.
“We will no longer allow our markets to be flooded with things that we can produce ourselves. We must believe in our system. Whenever you need my intervention, please come to me.”
He said he would support the plan by the ministry to boost indigenous manufacturing stating that his administration will protect local manufacturers against stiff competition from foreign investors. This he said will create more jobs and a boost for industrialization.
Musa and his team reportedly told the president that their revolution plan will also create more jobs and help to diversify the economy and create more tax base. This they said will be carried out in collaboration with other relevant agencies.
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari refused an offer by the Federal Government to attain five new armoured Mercedes Benz S-600 (V222) cars for his use.
