The Rivers state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed displeasure over what it termed as selective and insincere prosecution of opposition by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The party said such move is ill-conceived and leave a sour taste in the mouth. PDP stated that there are clear evident of looting of of public facilities, siphoning of Rivers state funds, fraudulent sale of state-owned establishments and financial frauds allegedly committed by former governor Rotimi Amaechi and his administration in Rivers State; and for which a Judicial Commission of Inquiry has been duly set up by Nyesom Wike’s administration.
The ruling party in Rivers added that despite all the evidence, the Buhari has continued to shield the former governor from prosecution.
The PDP stated further that to add salt to the wound, the president went ahead to include Amaechi in his entourage in the presidential team to the United States to meet with President Obama.
The party believes that if the president was sincere and dispassionate in his efforts to bring to book corrupt leaders in the country, the former governor, would not be dining with him at the presidential villa.
PDP said: “If President Buhari was also serious and not had marked certain citizens, particularly members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and those that served former President Goodluck Jonathan, for his selective punitive actions, Rotimi Amaechi, will not be flying abroad with him, but would be made to answer corruption charges against him and the administration he superintended for the period under review.”
The Party feels strongly disappointed and worried that Buhari was being skewed in his widely publicized anti-corruption drive.
It will be recalled that President Buhari during his just concluded official visit to United States, told President Barack Obama that the country is tracking $150billion allegedly cached by corrupt officials
