There are strong indications that UEFA President Michel Platini will announce his intent to become the next president of FIFA this week.
This comes after the UEFA president received strong backing from four continental confederations, the BBC reports.
According to the report, Platini will likely be a candidate when polling takes place on February 26, 2016.
The 60-year-old French man could declare his intent as early as Wednesday, July 29.
Switzerland’s Sepp Blatter, 79, has been in charge of FIFA since 1998. He is however stepping down as a result of a corruption crisis at world football’s governing body.
Candidates have until October 26 to be nominated.
It would be recalled that Sepp Blatter was re-elected as president of the soccer governing body on May, 29, 2015 but just four days later, he announced his intention to step down amid two investigations into corruption at football’s world governing body.
Platini was elected UEFA President for a third term in March, when he stood unopposed.
Under his presidency, UEFA has seen a number of major developments.
