An oil pipeline in the oil rich Bayelsa state has exploded resulting in the deaths of 12 oil workers.
An investigation visit by the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC), the operators of the oil field, was underway at the time of the explosion at an oil spill site.
Officials of the Bayelsa Ministry of Environment and representatives of the host community were also involved in the investigation.
According to a statement issued by Filipo Cotalini, a spokesman for Eni, the parent company of NAOC, the explosion occurred at the site of repair works on the Tebidaba-Clough Creek line, an oil pipeline previously damaged by acts of sabotage.

It led to the death of 12 members of the maintenance team of a local service company, leaving three people injured.
A source in the Bayelsa Ministry of Environment confirmed to Sahara Reporters that its staff on the visit were unhurt.
Eni’s statement concluded:“The company expresses its deepest condolences to the families involved in this tragic accident.”
