Why Nigerian En Route From London Arrested Immediately Upon Landing In Lagos

A Nigerian passenger was arrested for smoking a cigarette during his flight from London to Lagos.
According to the police, the name of the detained person is Lawal Oluwabusola. TheNation reports the man was travelling via Arik Air international flight.
He was apprehended upon landing at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, for smoking on board.
While in the air, the suspect went to the plane’s lavatory to smoke. It triggered the aircraft’s emergency alarm system off, causing confusion among passengers. Oluwabusola’s action violated the in-flight safety procedures.
The police at the airport informed that the passenger is arraigned in court on two count charges.
In 1992, the International Civil Aviation Organization passed a resolution urging its 152 member countries to go completely smoke-free by July 1, 1996.
Smoking cigarettes, or anything else that produces smoke or flame, is prohibited onboard most commercial aircraft. However, it is up to an individual airline to allow or to ban smoking electronic cigarettes in flight.
