Wike Visits Port Harcourt Refinery, Praises Management

The turn around maintenance of the Port Harcourt refinery has been concluded and the refinery has started functioning again.
The management of the refinery, Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) also played host to the Rivers state governor, Nyesome Wike today.  Wike commended the Nigerian technical staff of the company, for efficiently concluding the turn around maintenance of the hitherto moribund facility.
Wike who spoke at the event said the success of the turn around maintenance was a proof of the capacity of Nigerian engineers to compete favourably with their counterparts abroad.
He expressed joy that the completion of the facility and commencement of refining of crude will give room for for the Rivers people.
He said, “I commend the staff of the PHRC for the successful completion of the TAM. It means that this facility will create more employment for the people.“
The governor further directed the Eleme Local Government Council to clear refuse dumps on the road leading to the refinery while also announcing the state government’s  willingness to partner with the management of PHRC  to rehabilitate bad portions of the road.
Speaking earlier, the Managing Director of the company, Dr Bafred Enjugu told the governor that the maintenance was carried out by only Nigerian engineers after foreign partners pulled out of the project.
He said, “This  was carried out solely by our people here in Nigeria. Today, the Refinery has started production as a result of the determination of our technical personnel. “
He promised the governor that the PHRC will continue to partner with his government in order to deliver on its core mandate, Daily Post reports.
The turnaround maintenance of the refinery began in November 2014. The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation had to resort to in-house engineers after foreign engineers kept coming up with outrageous bills.
