Buoyed by his recent successes in the colours of Nigeria, Monday Merotohun, Nigeria’s number five ranked table tennis player, has vowed to win more gold medals for Nigeria at next month’s All Africa Games (AAG) in Congo.
The France-based Nigerian star, who spoke exclusively with naij.com on Monday, reiterated his desire to continue making the country proud in international meets, especially with his past successes on national assignments.
Merotohun, 40, one of the top Nigerian stars who will play the trials to qualify for the All Africa Games at the table tennis hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, Tuesday, noted that having won many laurels for the country in the past, he has resorted to enjoying himself in the sport.
“I have won laurels for Nigeria in the past, it is no longer new to me.
“However, it is always a thing of pride to represent the country at major international competitions, so I look forward to winning another medal for Nigeria at the All Africa Games after the trials.
“We have a very good side, winning the medals available should not be an issue for us. With the calibre of players in the country, Nigerians should expect nothing but the best from us,” the former Nigerian number two tennis star explained.
Recall that Nigeria emerged second at the recently concluded Powerlifting World Open Asian Championships in Almaty, Kazakhstan, with the country’s power lifters winning a total of 11 medals and broke three world records at the tournament.
Watch out for full interview with Merotohun soon.
