Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos state has urged intending pilgrims to Saudi Arabia from the state to this year’s Hajj to be good ambassadors. He has advised them to take advantage of the lectures and welfare package put together for them.
The governor said this during a seminar arganised at LTV Blue Roof, Ikeja on Monday, August 17.
He advised the intending pilgrims to project a good image of the state and to make use of the orientation exercise and lectures put together for their spiritual development.
He noted that out of the 66,000 pilgrims from Nigeria to this year’s Hajj, 3,047 are residents of Lagos.
“I am particularly hopeful that you will all take advantage of the spiritual benefit of Hajj to imbibe the exalted qualities of the holy Prophet Muhammed.
“More than ever, our state is in dire need of men and women who have the fear of God; who demonstrate religious tolerance; who are selfless, peaceful and charitable and men and women who are ready to sacrifice all they have for the growth and development of our state and nation in general.”
He said that the state had provided several welfare packages to ensure the safety and security of the pilgrims.
Meanwhile, Governor Nasiru El Rufai of Kaduna declared that the state saved N221m by deciding not to sponsor any pilgrimage this year.
