Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osibanjo have on August 19 met with the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the National Orientation Agency.
The ministries presented a number of offers to President Buhari, among them recommendations for the simplification of the visa obtaining process for tourists and the establishment of a tourism development fund.
Speaking at the end of the meeting, the president praised the permanent secretary for “a very good presentation” and vowed that his administration will support the ministry’s activities.
Buhari hailed ongoing efforts by the ministry to generate more revenue through its different agencies.
Nigerian leader was also presented with a handmade sculpture by the Ministry of Tourism in Anambra state.

According to the World Travel and Tourism Council report on Travel and Tourism Economic Impact in Nigeria 2014, the direct contribution of travel and tourism to the GDP in 2013 was N757.3 billion (1.6%).
This sector is a multi-billion-dollar industry that can become a major revenue earner for government.
