Chile 2015: Hardwork is non-negotiable - Amunike

Nigerian U17 head coach Emmanuel Amunike is quietly confident about their chances in the upcoming FIFA U17 World Cup in Chile. He said that, he wants to pull through the tournament without much pressure on his Team.
The Golden Eaglets who are the current holders of the cup which they obtained in 2013, and, are four times champions have been told by the head coach, the importance of the ‘collective’ leading to the tournament in Chile.
Amunike, a former African Footballer of the year(1994) and part of the FIFA U17 World Cup winning team in 2013 as the assistant to the former coach, Manu Garba.
Amunike who has transformed from a great player to one of the best youth coaches in Africa, downplayed the team’s chances by expressing his intention not to put pressure on the players by creating unnecessary euphoria,” he said in an interview with BBC.
“We’ll be preparing ourselves, we’ll be working very hard and chanel our games towards the first game. But I think the most important thing is to remain focused, to look at the areas where we can improve,” he said.
“Football has its own components, and if we shall look at the components; the goalkeeping department, the defence department, the midfield department, and the attacking department. How we bring this together as a collective to the interest of the team.”
“If my players can interpret when, where, whom and what, I’d be able to rest assured that going into the tournament, we`ll give a good account of ourselves.”
“Every team thats a winning team wants to win. We should not create unnecessary euphoria. A lot of people will be expecting the team to win. In football, hardwork is a non-negotiable thing.”
“We are the defending champion,we’re going to Chile to defend our cup so hopefully we’ll give a very good account of ourselves,” he concluded.
The Nigerian Golden Eaglets have been grouped with USA, Croatia, and Chile in the Group A of the tournament, which was won by Nigeria under the leadership of Manu Garba at Dubai in 2013.
