Actor David Oyelowo has landed a major role to play James Bond, a feat he has expressed great satisfaction in.
Oyelowo plays James Bond and other characters in an audiobook version of Trigger Mortis, a new novel written by Anthony Horowitz and authorized by the Ian Fleming estate.
Oyelowo who is famed for playing Martin Luther King in Selma from 2014, an American historical film written by Paul Webb and produced by Christian Colson and Oprah Winfrey, has described the new Bond role as special.
“I was asked specifically by the Fleming estate, which is really special,” he said.
Though only an audio input and not a movie appearance, the actor thinks highly of the project.
He spoke further;
“I am officially the only person on planet Earth who can legitimately say: ‘I am the new James Bond’ – even saying that name is the cinematic equivalent of doing the ‘to be or not to be’ speech.”
The new role means Oyelowo is the first Black actor to ‘play the role’ of James Bond, even as there are strong speculations across boards that Idris Elba might be next to portray Bond on screen.
Elba has been touted as a possible replacement for Daniel Craig as the new Bond, considering there’s just two more movies to go before Craig’s depiction of James Bond ends.
