All hell was let loose in the Majidun area of Ikorodu on Monday, August 24 when a naval officer shot three people, Vanguard reports
The naval officer was stationed to monitor surveillance around Tipper Park so as to prevent pipeline vandalism. It was reported that the officer left his duty post to unwind by drinking alcoholic drinks. When he returned, he was in a drunken state and started mishandling his gun.
At around 3pm, the gun went off, shooting three people who were going about their duty at the park. One of the injured persons was said to be a driver while the identity of the other two men was yet to be confirmed.
Pandemonium broke after the shooting as people scampered for safety. The three men who were in critical condition were taken to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital. It was not confirmed if they were in stable condition at the time of writing this report.
Patricia Amadin, the Lagos state police public relations officer confirmed the incident. She said the officer has been detained at the Naval Base, Ikorodu while investigation was being carried out.
Incidence of law enforcement officers firing their service weapons indiscriminately has been on the rise, recently a policeman reportedly killed two nursing mothers at a burial ceremony at Fugar headquarters of Etsako central local government area of Edo state.
