Ex-Speaker's Rumoured Defection: APC Reacts, Slams Fayose

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti state has reacted to the rumoured defection of former speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Femi Bamisile, to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
A statement by the publicity secretary of the APC in the state, Hon Taiwo Olatunbosun described the report as an attempt by the state governor, Ayodele Fayose to blackmail the party, This Day reports.
The former speaker had on Sunday, August 23, met with Governor Ayodele at a popular hotel located along Ado-Iworoko road, fueling speculations that he was making moves to re-join PDP, which he left last year.
According to Olatunbosun, Fayose was feeling insecure over Bamisile’s rising popularity and had to resort to blackmail and lies to cause disaffection within the APC.
He started with me, lying that I was afflicted with a strange ulcer and that a spiritualist had advised me to beg him (the governor) and return to the PDP before the sore could be healed,” he said.
The secretary alleged that Fayose had stage-managed the meeting with some traditional rulers at the hotel where he was hiding, to lure Bamisile into attendance and surprisingly burst into the meeting pleading with the former Speaker to return to the PDP, but he was turned down. He then turned the story against Bamisile.
Olatunbosun said: “Few minutes after the meeting, the news was all over the place that Bamisile had agreed to return to the PDP after meeting with Fayose.
“This is the same way Fayose and his aides forged President Muhammadu Buhari’s medical report claiming that he had cancer only for the Management of Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital to dismiss the document as forgery, just as he also lied during the campaign that he saw Buhari on sick bed when actually the man was in far away London delivering a lecture.
“This same Fayose blackmailed Chief Afe Babalola (SAN) by pasting his posters as a governorship aspirant in 2006 even when the elder statesman never contemplated any elective position,” he explained.
He added that Fayose had been consistently lying in the last 10 months against a number of prominent APC members like the immediate past governor, Kayode Fayemi.
Bamisile is a chieftain of the APC and had declared his intention for the 2018 governorship election.
Following reports that Fayose had begged him to return to the PDP, one of his friends named Bolaji Jeje had described it as “a shameless lie.”
According to him, Bamisile approached him to facilitate his return to the PDP and that they subsequently met with the governor at the Eko Hotels and Suite, Lagos, on August 17, 2015, at about 12:30am.
In response, Bamisile said Jeje was being used by Fayose to rubbish his image.
