How Amaechi Looted Rivers State Fund - PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers state has warned President Muhammadu Buhari against ministerial appointing of the immediate past governor of the state, Rotimi Amaechi, stating that his appointment would make mockery of the president stance on corruption.
Amaechi was quoted to have said at a function in Abuja over the weekend that Buhari was begging him to accept appointment as minister.
Vanguard reports that the PDP had insisted that the former governor is corrupt, adding that any move to appoint him as minister or secretary to the government of the federation would be likened to glorifying corruption. The party pointed out that such development would also expose the president as just focusing on PDP as well as aides of former president Goodluck Jonathan in his anti-corruption drive.
The party, who stressed that Amaechi drained the state purse before leaving power, wondered why the APC in Rivers has continued to cheer him despite several cases of corruption that was allegedly committed by the ex-governor.
The ruling party in Rivers recounts how Amaechi illegally disbursed about N2 billion Agricultural Loan, non-execution of the contract for the construction of the Justice Adolphus Karibi-Whyte Specialist Hospital after the payment of the sum of thirty-nine million and two hundred thousand dollars, illegal withdrawal of ninety-six billion naira from the Rivers State Reserve Fund, illegal sale of Omuku, Afam, Eleme and Trans-Amadi Gas Turbines, as well as the sale of Olympia Hotel.
Other acts of corruptions allegedly perpetrated by the ex-governor are misappropriation of fund made for Mono-rail and other phony projects abandoned in the state, after billions of naira were reportedly paid to ‘ghost’ contractors by Amaechi.
The PDP recounted how the APC chairman, Davies Ikanya, who was a former commissioner in state misapplied billions of naira that was in his care which was meant for rehabilitation of indigenes of the state that were allegedly deported by a neighbouring state.
‘’Looking elsewhere from Mr Rotimi Amaechi, former governor of Rivers State and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and concentrating only on those who worked under former President Goodluck Jonathan and members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the ‘fight against corruption’ amounts to witch-hunt and selective prosecution,” the PDP tells President Buhari.
