Adamawa state university officials disclosed that security of the university community, suffered from Boko Haram attack last year, will be ensured from now by hunters.
The authorities of university hired 80 hunters to provide safety against the threat of possible future attacks by notorious Boko Haram members, known for their hatred against what they call “western education”.
Hunters played important complementary role to the military in redeeming Mubi after it was captured by Boko Haram militants in October last year.
During the Boko Haram attack the university suffered substantial damage: the property has been looted from the hostels, laboratories and offices. Insurgents destroyed property worth N5 billion.
In addition to that 11 members of the university staff and three students have been killed during the attack.
Nevertheless, 95 per cent of the students have resumed their classes since then.
The tertiary education trust fund supported the institution with N250m. Besides that the national body of academic staff union of universities donated N21 million to its members in the university.
Hundreds of Nigerian soldiers fled the town of Mubi in Adamawa Sstate last year, as members of the terrorists’ group, Boko Haram, advanced to take over the town.
However, later the troops routed terrorists from different towns and communities in Adamawa, succeeding in clearing terrorists out of state.
