Luis Suarez scored a fantastic volley and Lionel Messi missed the 14th penalty of his career as Barcelona beat Athletic Bilbao in their La Liga opener.
Luis Enrique’s men were returning to the ground where they were thrashed 4-0 in the first leg of the Super Cup just nine days ago. However, the La Liga champions got a sweet revenge for their Spanish Super Cup defeat when Jordi Alba set up Luis Suarez nicely in the six yard box for the striker to volley home the winning goal in style.
Suarez goal came just in time for Barcelona as Messi failed to open the scoring from the spot when Bilbao’s keeper Iraizoz flew to his right to stop the Argentine.
Messi has now missed five penalties for club and country in the past year and failed to find the net in 14 of the 63 penalties he has taken for Barcelona.

Federer shocks Djokovic to win Cincinnati Masters
Roger Federer, an impressive statement of intent in advance of the US Open by crushing the world No1 Novak Djokovic in an hour and half on Sunday, August 23, to win a record seventh Cincinnati Masters title.
Federer sent a warning signal to Djokovic ahead of the final grand slam tournament of the year, US Open with an emphatic 7-6, 6-3 victory to lift the Cincinnati Masters title.

Kano Pillars’ 12 year unbeaten home record comes to an end
Kano Pillars unbeaten record at the their home ground came to an unexpected end on Sunday, August 23, as the reigning Nigeria Premier League champions suffered a shock 1-2 defeat in the hands of Nasarawa United.
Goals from former Pillars player Manir Ubale and Bature Yaro inside 16 minutes stunned the home side and Rabiu Ali’s strike at the start of the second half was not enough to prevent the defeat.
The result was also a bitter end to the team’s 12 years and 202 match unbeaten run record at their fortress Sani Abacha stadium.
Last defeat was a 1-2 to Julius Berger on 21 June 2003.

Bolt’s 9.79 seconds was just a little better than Gatlin 9.80 to win the World Athletics Championships 100m in Beijing his world record.
