Okagbare Fails To Turn up For 200m Heat

Nigeria’s 200m hopeful at the ongoing IAAF World Athletics Championships in China, failed to appear for the heat of her event today.
The African sprint queen, Africa’s best prospect of winning medals at the world meet finished a disappointing eighth in the 100m final on Monday, and Nigerians were already expecting her to bounce back today in the 200m race.

The 2014 Commonwealth gold medal winner however, refused to start in the Heat Three of the event which she had been registered to participate in.
The Punch reports with reference to sources in Beijing that the African champion was nursing an injury and decided against participating in the race so as not to aggravate it.
Her team at the ongoing championship have since blamed her poor performance in the 100m race as a result of her placing on the starters’ draw, where she started on lane nine despite the fact that she ended the semis as the second fastest athlete.
