Oron Traditional Rulers Applaud Buhari

Traditional rulers of Oron in Akwa Ibom state have applauded President Muhammadu Buhari for approving the re-appointment of Joshua Okpo as the rector of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria in Oron.
Addressing newsmen at the weekend, the royal fathers, led by Offong Odiong Akan said Buhari’s decision to re-appoint Okpo was the best thing that has happened to the maritime industry and by extension, the academy, Daily Sun reports.
According to the traditional rulers, who said Okpo’s re-appointment did not come as a surprise because of his impressive achievements in the academy in the past four years, it would give him more opportunity to surpass his massive infrastructure renaissance and other developmental projects.
Under his four-year tenure, he has been able to pull the academy from jaw and shackle of underdevelopment and ethnicity trappings; provision of 24-hour power and water supply; the academy now enjoys improved and enhanced hostel facilities for male and female cadets; the procurement, installation and fully operational state-of-the-art simulator for practical training of the cadets and staff, ICT equipment, completion of inherited capital projects and prudent management of resources.
“This development is an eloquent testimony to Mr. President’s detribalized disposition in rewarding hard work, excellence and dedicated quality service delivery, which has been the hallmark of Mr. President since his assumption of office. We wish to reiterate our readiness to cooperate and support Okpo’s unbending determination and commitment towards upgrading the academy to a degree-awarding institution, and repositioning it on the path of progress and growth for global competitiveness,” the royal fathers stated.
The monarchs threatened to place a curse on anybody using the media, especially online publications, to prevent the new-found development in the 36-year-old academy.
The Maritime Academy  of  Nigeria, Oron, is a federal government institution. The school is open to the world for the imparting of knowledge and training of manpower for the maritime industry.
