Following the incessant public outcry against the increase of prostitution and other social vices at Tinshama, a slum in the Nassarawa Local Government of Kano State, Hisbah operatives have arrested about 23 young girls for alleged prostitution, most of them in their teen-years.
The operation was made at the instance of the community based group, Tinshama Community Development that sought the intervention of the Hisbah guards to rid the area of harlots, who are being patronized by all sorts of people including criminals.
Some of the arrested suspects denied being prostitutes, saying they reside in their parents’ homes and accused Hisbah of arresting them on their way to visit their relatives.
Hisbah guards serves as the ‘Shari’ah Police’ employed by states which operates the Shari’ah Legal System in the North-west of Nigeria, with their actions generally seen as fanaticism by Muslims and non-Muslims alike.
They will be prosecuted and charged to Court.
