Police Nab Three For Cultism In Edo

The Edo state police command has apprehended three people for allegedly initiating 35 students of various tertiary institutions into cultism.
The Nation reports that the suspects were arrested at Ogbese forest in Ovia North East local government area of the state.
According to the police, the names of the suspects are Kingsley Nwachukwu, Amoo Oboba and Innocent Essien.
While moving from state to state, they allegedly initiated students into cultism.
The police officers were said to have nabbed the culprits during the initiation ceremony following a tip-off. The three suspects were apprehended while attempting to escape from the scene.
Stephen Onwochei, the police spokesman, revealed that a locally made revolver and three live cartridges were recovered from a car belonging to the suspects. He added that the police would launch the investigation, noting that cases of cult related activities and armed robbery increased in the area.
Earlier this year, the Ebonyi state police command foiled plans by the Vikings cult sect to initiate 46 graduating students of a popular mission secondary school in Izzi local government area of the state. Fifteen suspects were arrested on the spot while the initiators fled.
Meanwhile, Ige Folarin, the commander-general of the National School Crime Preventing Corps,  has described cultism in educational institutions as a tragedy that should be eradicated immediately.
“We are letting people know in the exposition that cultism is now in secondary schools, we should all rise as stakeholders to prevent this act so that the society will be a better place,” Ige suggested.
