Probe: NDDC Management To Meet Buhari

There is anxiety at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) following reports that the management of the commission will be visiting President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, on Wednesday, August 26.

Recently the commission came under scrutiny due to findings contained in a report by the auditor general of the federation, which indicated that the commission could not account for N183 billion over the years.
Following the release of the auditor general’s report which alleged some financial mismanagement, President Buhari ordered a probe of the commission.
Sources confirmed that the management of the commission are billed to visit Aso Rock Villa for a meeting with President Buhari today.
A source revealed that the staff and management of the NDDC were in panic, since nobody could confirm what fate awaited the management after the meeting.
According to the source: “From all indications, the management of that commission may either be given a marching or packing order, because there are several petitions against them in respect of various issues ranging from contract splitting and the rest.
“So when we heard of the altercations between the NDDC and the office of the auditor general, it became a thing of concern, because there are real issues to be sorted by the management; they can’t deny such.”
President Muhammadu Buhari is reportedly saddened by the alleged mismanagement of funds by the NDDC, running into billions of naira, and this informed his decision to summon the management of the commission for questioning on the true financial status.
There is speculation that when Buhari meets with the management team of the commission, he will take them up on many issues relating to the management of the resources of the commission since the new board assumed office in December 2013.
One issue that is most likely to come to the fore is the awarding of multi-billion naira contracts, paid and backdated to last year, in a bid to cover alleged financial misdeeds, even after the board had been sacked with a specific mandate to the managing director to take over.
More regarding this alleged misappropriation can be read here.
