Senate In Closed Door Meeting To Review Senate Finances

The Senate has just gone into a closed door session to discuss the report of the ad-hoc committee on the review of the Senate’s finances.
The committee was inaugurated on Thursday, June 25, by the Senate president, Bukola Saraki.
The 10-member ad-hoc committee headed by Sen. James Manager was created to look into the Senate finances and reduce the cost of government in the 8th Senate.
The issue of the Senate finances has been controversial in the country and led to the slashing of the National Assembly budget by 30 percent from N150 billion to N120 billion.
Saraki had said: “The 8th Senate under our watch recognizes the concerns raised by Nigerians about the cost of running office, most especially with the economic challenges facing our nation.
“The Senate will be more transparent regarding all public funds spent for the purpose of paying salaries and allowances of legislators and ensure that distinction is sufficiently made between what a legislator actually earns and what was being spent to run and implement legislative business and committee activities.”
