Two Plateau LGs Under Curfew Over Violence

The government of Plateau state has declared a dusk-to-dawn curfew in Riyom and Barkin Ladi local government areas following numerous cases of violence in the area.
The Guardian reports that the government’s decision was contained in a statement made by Rufus Bature, the secretary to the state government, on August 13, Thursday.
“The curfew starts 6pm and ends at 6am,” the statement read.
Bature assured local people that enough security personnel would be deployed to protect their lives and property. However, he also warned people against violent actions that could worsen the security situation in the communities.
According to The Punch, the warring Berom and Fulani communities have recently resolved to end hostilities. However, earlier this week they took up arms against each other again.
Meanwhile, the Special Task Force (STF) in Plateau state has confirmed that many people have been killed in the past few days. He added that its personnel had been deployed in affected areas to restore law and order.
Two days ago a soldier attached to the STF on Jos crisis and five others were gunned down by unknown gunmen in an attack in Bisich village, Barkin Ladi local government area of the state.
