White Elephant Projects: PDP Lambasts Aregbesola, Amosun

The chairman of the Lagos state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, Captain Olatunji Shelle has taken a swipe on the governors of Ogun and Osun states, saying that the duo are embarking on white elephant projects at the expense of their peoples welfare.
Lagos PDP chair, Olatunji Shelle
Shelle stated this during an interview, while reacting to the statement that the All Progressives Congress was cleaning up the mess left by the PDP.
His words:“Who are the people in the party today? APC is not a party; it’s a conglomeration of strange bed fellows. You have PDP which is even a majority in that party, Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN is there, All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, Congress for Progressive Congress, CPC and part of All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA are all there. Are these people clean?
“What’s happening in Osun State? Is that a good example? You don’t just come to Lagos, see bridges, high buildings and you feel you can go and do that in Osun or Ogun State, and then you go and borrow money to service those projects you cannot sustain; you go and build edifices that are just white elephant projects; you go and build schools that you cannot furnish; you go and award contracts at escalated prices. All these things are the causes of our problem in this country.
“Osun doesn’t need a Shoprite, and somebody removed a school from where it had been standing for 70 years to build Shoprite; may be, somebody introduced the idea from Lagos; that’s not a priority project for Osun State; bridges are not a priority for Ogun State, and who are the ones ruling these states? APC.
“What are they calling mess? What you find in Osun State, where services have broken down; is that not a mess? So it’s not limited to PDP; PDP must have learnt its lesson; maybe we lost focus; we thought we were the ruling party. If PDP had been given another chance, definitely, things would have been moving on and they would have built on the services they had rendered before a new government came in,” he said.
Speaking further, Shelle said that credit should be given to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan’s administration for whatever success recorded by President Muhammadu Buhari in the next two years, adding that the previous government laid the foundation for such.
“Look at the oil sector for instance, a lot of development has taken place there; that the refineries have not taken off is not that the government did not issue licenses to people to build refineries, but are Nigerians ready to pay economic price for the price of petroleum products; petrol, kerosene? They are not. People who got the licenses were reluctant.
“Another government is in power so let them try their best. But if any positive thing happens in the oil industry today, it is still the handwork of the PDP government; if anything positive happens in the power sector today or in the next one, two, three years; it is what PDP had built.
“Many people have forgotten you don’t sow a seed and you get instant result. And that’s why somebody is saying today; give me time; I am slow; I may be slow; I want to clean up; clean what? Let people see the direction you are going,” he averred.
