Abdullahi Dikko, already the former comptroller general of the Nigerian Customs Service, explained why he decided to leave his post.
The news broke out on Monday, August 17, that Abdullahi requested resignation less than two years to the end of his tenure.
President Muhammadu Buhari accepted the resignation, thanked the customs official for the service and wished him success.
Speculations emerged the quit could be connected with the fear of active investigations on allegation of corruption.

According to Premium Times, Abdullahi shed the light on his move speaking with journalists after his Monday meeting with President Buhari.
“The time I’m leaving is the time I feel those young ones that have developed the software can come up and manage the software.
“So that is basically the reason and I’m sending out this signal to all those who have stayed put.
“Don’t stay until you are asked you to go. When you feel you have done so much and you believe in the system you have built, then why do you stay? Why don’t you be an umpire? Leave, be by the side and watch and advise.”
Mr. Abdullahi left after putting in six years as the head of Customs, one of Nigeria’s main revenue sources besides oil and gas.
Responding to the newsmen’s questions, Abdullahi noted that under his service revenue appreciated by 20% from when he took over. He added:
“And the officers that did the work are still around and I think that the NCS – I stand to be corrected- is the only service that is fully automated in the system of operation.”
It should be recalled that in a recent period the presidency has carried out a major shake-up in the military and oil sectors. By sacking the service chiefs and top officials of the major oil corporation President Buhari reportedly plans to completely restructure the systems.
