Young ladies and their male counterparts in Nigeria between the ages of13-25 years, now have the platform to become acclaimed actresses and actors being the first of its kind in Nigeria and sub-saharan Africa.
Bob Manuel Udokwu, Senior Special Adviser to Anambra state governor on Creative Media, is the production consultant to the Nigeria teens and twenties audition which is a project that enables talented teenagers to be groomed to become great actors. The project is expected to generate over 2000 direct and indirect employment to youths nationwide. It will enable 50 people that are chosen to be camped for a few days and taught the rudiments of screen acting by professionals.
The auditions are not for actors only, scriptwriters will also be screened and selected, which will be produced by Kneol Productions and Entertainment.
The CEO, Kneol Productions and Entertainment, Nwankwo Emmanuel Obiora (NEO) and Oluga Kingsley Chiemerie said that the Nigerian teens and twenties audition will hold across major cities once in three years.
According to Obiora: “For years in Nigeria and around Africa, we have observed the cries and complaints of young people, lamenting disregard of their acting skills and the withering of their dreams of becoming the next Nollywood superstars.
“We want to give these teenagers and young people a chance to become the future of the Nigerian and African movie industry through the auditions. Our youths will finally get the opportunities they crave to prove to the world that they can be the future of the African movie scene under the right guidance.
“In a country where the talent and skills of young people are nurtured and channeled to progress, the sky will be the starting point. The audition will hold in 20 states in Nigeria. The States are Abia, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Benue, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, Enugu, Imo, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, katsina, Kwara, Lagos, Oyo, Rivers and Abuja.
“It will hold in the 20 States to reduce the travel burden for applicants in different locations. If your state is left out, kindly register to the nearest State as your audition location. Everyone will be given equal opportunity
Fifty people will be selected from the auditions and will be camped for a few days and taught the rudiments of screen acting by professionals.
Six overall winners will emerge, three persons from each of the teenage and twenties category respectively. The 50 finalists will be registered with the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) and will subsequently feature in movies alongside established professionals.
“We need to find young creative writing minds. Those interested in script writing, should submit a summary of at least two stories on the day of the audition at the various centres.
“The best five scriptwriters will be selected; the scriptwriters will be part of the production crew when productions of the movies begin because we believe that every writer has a better picture of the story written.
“The story should not be less than 150 scenes, scripts with lesser scenes will be considered on reasonable or creative grounds”.
The teenagers, that is, those between the ages of 13-19 years shall be screened separately from those between the ages of 20-25 years. This will create an even competition between the age categories.
