The former governor of Akwa Ibom state and senate minority leader, Godswill Akpabio has urged politicians in Nigeria to desist from politicizing tragedies and disasters that befall their political opponents.
In a statement issued from his sick bed in London, the lawyer turned politician, advised politicians to instead channel their energy towards the unity and progress of Nigeria.
Recall that Akpabio recently escaped death after his car got involved in an accident along Airport Road in Abuja. The accident happened on Monday, August 31, near the Bolingo junction close to the Ship House, Abuja.
Yesterday, Akpabio shared a picture of himself in his hospital bed via his Twitter page with a caption that read: “Though down but not out, I will rise again.”
According to The Nation, he also thanked God for surviving the accident and appreciated Nigerians who showed concern and prayed for his well being.
He specifically mentioned former president Goodluck Jonathan, President Muhamadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Senate President Bukola Saraki, speaker of the house of representatives, Hon Yakubu Dogara, Akwa Ibom state governor, Udom Emmanuel and his colleagues in the National Assemblyfor their concern and show of love when the accident occurred.
He also appreciated traditional and religious leaders, who he said have been calling on a daily basis to inquire about his well being.
In another development, Akpabio’s lawyers, yesterday, September 5, toldthe Akwa Ibom state election petition tribunal that he is not yet ready to open his defence.
