The Anglican Archbishop, Metropolitan and Primate of Nigeria, Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh, has advised Christians to be vigilant of kidnappers.
He gave the advice in Abuja today, September 5, at the 2015 Annual Pre-pilgrimage Retreat and Workshop for staff of Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC) and other stakeholders.
Okoh’s advice comes on the heels of the kidnapping of Rev. Moses Tabuwaye, from the Gwagwalada, Abuja Diocese yesterday, on his way to Awka, Anambra state, for a church programme.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, he also revealed that Tabuwaye’s captors has requested for N40 million before they release him.
He said: “I urge all of you Christians to be very vigilant and security conscious where-ever you find yourselves. The issue of kidnapping is rampant in the country but we can still curtail the menace if we are vigilant. If we fail to live together as brothers in prayers, we shall perish as fools, so we should endeavour to be our brothers’ keepers.”
Speaking at the event, the NCPC boss, John-Kennedy Opara, assured that he would always give a sense of direction and hope to ensure that God’s plans for the commission were achieved.
Just last week, the Anglican Communion encouraged the federal government and security agencies to do more to protect worship centres from attacks by the Islamic terror group, Boko Haram.
Meanwhile, a recent report has revealed how former the Nigerian military leader, the late General Sani Abacha gave out millions of dollars of public funds to leaders of the Anglican Church in Nigeria.
