A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Sokoto state, Abdullahi Sarkin-Gobir Adiya, has advised the Ahmad Lawan-led group, Senate Unity Forum to perish the thought of attempting to remove the Senate president, Bukola Saraki.
Adiya noted that such move will hit the wall, This Day reports.
He boasted that nobody can impeach Saraki except God, pointing out that he was legitimately elected by his colleagues in the Senate and not by an imposition of a godfather.
The APC chieftain explained that senators loyal to Lawan should seek peaceful means of settling the raging issues in the Senate saying that Saraki was destined by providence to head the 8th Senate.
Adiya said: “Saraki’s emergence as the Senate President did not come to many as a surprise because he deserved to be there. Every politician has a mission and he had laboured to achieve his goal.
“So, nobody can remove him except God because he was duly elected by his colleagues and not imposed on them.”
He described those that are campaigning against the Senate president as political enemies saying they are doing everything to drag Saraki’s name to the mud just to achieve a cheap political point.
“There is no evidence that Saraki is a corrupt leader. It was just a smear campaign by detractors to tarnish his image.
“He has been providing good leadership to the Senate and Nigerians are happy with the purposeful leadership. Therefore, we urged him not to be distracted by the antics of political enemies,” the APC chieftain concluded.
Meanwhile, the 8th Senate has hailed the Lawan-led Unity Forum for withdrawing the suit it filed before an Abuja high court, which sought for the removal of Saraki and his deputy, Senator Ike Ekweremadu over the allegation of forgery of the Senate Standing Order 2015 that was allegedly used for the inauguration of the Senate.
