Ekiti Bans Grass Cutting In Schools

A cross-section of students cutting grasses.
As students of both private and public schools in Ekiti resume yesterday September 14, for the 2015/2016 academic year, the state government has banned cutting of grasses by the students.

It is a norm, especially in Nigerian public schools that as they re-open, students are directed to tidy-up the school surroundings in which grass-cutting is not excluded.

This order was given in a statement issued and personally signed by the state commissioner for education, Mr. Egunjobi, in which a copy was obtained by our reporter.
Egunjobi said cutting of grasses during school hours is henceforth banned in the state, added that, if grasses should be cut, it must be done during break-time or after the close of school work.
The commissioner directed that academic work should begin immediately in all the schools from today.
From investigations round some towns in the state yesterday, boarding students in both public and private schools were seen arriving the town in preparation for today’s resumption after a long vacation.
