A group under the aegis of Female Condom Youths Advocates has described the lack of accessibility, and affordability of different brands of female condoms ‎as a major reason why women avoid using it.

Ms. Marian Patrick, the programme and communication officer, Education As a Vaccine (EAV), revealed this on Wednesday, September 16, at an event commemorating this year’s Global Female Condom Day 2015‎ in Abuja.
The group called on  the government to address the case of stock out in public health facilities.
According to her, she said most women don’t use female condoms because they find it not affordable, adding that  there is no diversification of brands unlike the male condoms where there are several brands.
She said: ‎”The problem of accessibility in female condoms push their lack on interest, when a lady wants a female condom and she gets to primary health centre or a pharmacy,  what she gets is FC2, and some people want varieties.
Marian further said that some women prefer having other brands as a choice, and not having those brands is discouraging them to look for female condoms.Meanwhile research has shown that Makoko area of Lagos state, a slum that is predominantly dominated by Egun people, do not like using condoms, due to their long held traditional belief in the old practice of coitus interrupts, also known as the withdrawal or pull-out method during sexual intercourse.
