Toronto FC goalkeeper Chris Konopka and defender Eric Zavaleta have praised Nigerian forward, Obafemi Martins impressive performance against their team over the weekend.
Toronto FC had faced up against an impressive frontline of Martins and Clint Dempsey and the defenders had issues coping with Martins pace.
Toronto’s 3-4-3 formation was tested in the 5th minute of the game when Dempsey chipped the ball onto Martins who beat the offside trap and scored his 11th goal of the MLS season so far.
Goalkeeper Konopka remarked: “They (Martins and Dempsey) are both obviously world-class players and yet you always have to be on your toes with them.
“Oba’s shot in the first half is moving all over the place and (Martins) is the type of player who you have to be ready for at any time.”
Toronto won’t feel so disappointed losing the game 2-1 to the heavily favoured Seattle Sounder.
Toronto FC players Sebastian Giovinco, Jozy Altidore, Collen Warner, Benoit Cheyrou, and Justin Morrow were all absent for various reasons from the game.
