Panic As FG Plans To Review Employments In NIMASA

The fates of some members of staff of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) are in doubt as the Federal Ministry of Transport plans to review employments, placements and promotions since 2010.

According to a statement issued by Hajia Lami Tumaka, head of public relations on Monday, September 14, 2015, a committee headed by Lawal Ibrahim, the ministry’s director of human resources had been constituted to carry out the review.

The committee is mandated to determine whether employments, placements and promotions in NIMASA from 2010 to date conformed to civil service procedures. It would also determine if the employments, placements and promotions were in line with the principle of federal character.
The statement stated that the nine-member committee which had since commenced sitting, had two weeks to complete the assignment and submit its recommendations to Malam Mohammed Bashar, permanent secretary, Ministry of Transport.
Haruna Jauro acting director-general of NIMASA, said the exercise was aimed at ensuring proper staff placement in line with existing federal civil service regulations.
According to him, the exercise would also aid the process of motivating the staff of the agency and getting the best out of them in the discharge of their responsibilities.
He however, assured that the interest of staff would be protected in accordance with civil service rulenwhich emphasises fairness and equity.
