Powerful explosion rocked the Rivers state capital on Thursday evening, killing four people.

Four people were killed in Port Harcourt as a result of powerful explosion on Thursday evening. The most likely cause of the explosion was the gas leakage.
According to the reports from the scene, a gas cylinder used for welding exploded around 5 pm in a workshop situated near the ABC Bus park at the crossing of Eliozu road and the East-West road.
Hearing the explosion residents, motorists and passers-by ran for cover. Two people were killed at the spot, with their legs severed in the blast.
Another person injured in the explosion died on the way to the nearest hospital, where the fourth victim died having not received the necessary assistance, while medical staff on duty demanded to pay N35,000 to start his treatment.
Rivers police spokesman, Muhammad Kidaya Ahmad, confirmed the incident, but couldn’t provide any additional details to the information gathered by the press.
Meanwhile, Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has sympathised with the direct victims of bomb attack on Sabon-Gari local government council secretariat, urging the people of Kaduna state to be vigilant, even as they preserve the peace.
