Security: Police Orders Joints And Clubs To Close Early

The Ogun state police command has given proprietors of pub centres and other public joints across the state to henceforth close shops for business by 10:00 pm daily.
The police declared that the order is not a mere directive as anybody found disregarding the order risk being arrested for breaching the security laws in the state.

In a statement issued on Tuesday September 1, and signed by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, the Ogun state commissioner of police, Abdulmajid Ali, gave the directive in order not to jeopardise the peaceful security arrangement being enjoyed across the state.
The PPRO further explained that the decision became necessary in view of the police investigation which has proven that patrons of liquor centres tend to have lost sense of decency and are prone to committing security breaches after 10:00 pm as they are likely to be influenced by ‘an overdose’ of alcohol.
Adejobi, who stated that the command would treat any proprietor of joints and liquor centres caught violating the order as aiding and abetting criminals in the state, also added that club houses across the state would have the grace of closing by 12:00 pm.
Although, the Ogun police authority did not give further details which necessitated the early closure of pub centres across the state, our correspondent reliably gathered that the CP’s directive may be unconnected with the outbreak of secret cult war in some areas.
A few days ago, about three persons were killed while many people sustained varying degree of injuries when factional cult groups engaged in a free for all at Elega area in Abeokuta, the state capital.
