Buhari, Osinbajo, Obasanjo, Gowon, Dangote, others attend HID Awolowo's funeral ceremony



The matriarch of Awolowo dynasty, Chief (Mrs.) Hannah Idowu Dideolu (HID)  on Wednesday afternoon made her glorious and final exit.

HID Awolowo, who died on September 19, was interred beside her husband, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, inside the 28 –year- old Awo’s Mausoleum located within the sprawling Awolowo’s compound in Ikenne, Ogun State.

The deceased would have been 100 -year-old on the day of burial.

Her surviving daughters – Mrs. Omotola Oyediran, Dr. Olatokunbo Awolowo – Dosunmu and a handful of relatives witnessed HID’s internment that was conducted privately within the Mausoleum.

President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbanjo, Senate President Bukola Saraki, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, ex-Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, Head of the defunct Interim National Government, Chief Ernest Shonekan, Aliko Dangote, the National leader of the All Progressives Congress(APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and governor Ibikunle Amosun saw the matriarch off.

President Buhari, who arrived at the Awolowo’s compound at 2:18pm, proceeded to the Efunyella Hall where he spent few minutes with the children of the deceased, before heading to the Mausoleum at 2:49pm to see the resting place of Mama and her husband and left two minutes later.

The security Operatives – soldiers, police, Department of State Security Service (DSS) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were on ground in their hundreds but were d overwhelmed by enthusiastic crowd of dignitaries surging to bid HID Awolowo a final good bye.
