See Why Angry Indigenes Sacked Their Own King in Bayelsa

Highly infuriated members of a Bayelsa community have unleashed their anger on their own king for grievances they deem too big to forgive.
The traditional ruler of Okoroba Community in Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, King Thomas Nabhon Ako, who is reported to have been reigning since 1999, was yesterday dethroned by angry indigenes who accused him of exhibiting poor and ineffective leadership in the community.

According to Daily Post, the ouster of King Nabhon Ako was carried out at an enlarged meeting of the women, youths and elders of the Community amid tension, after they had accused him of abandoning the community in their trying times.

While some were aggrieved over the poor state of roads and other infrastructures in the community, others accused the royal father of abandoning his traditional duties and stool for professional duty in the Nigerian Police Force, where he is rumoured to be serving as an Assistant Commissioner of Police in Enugu state.

Confirming this development in a statement issued in Yenagoa, the Acting Chairman of the Okoroba Council of Chiefs, Chief M.P.D Bokolo-Arugu said the decision to sack the traditional ruler was taken at a well attended meeting of sons and daughters of the Community held on the 2nd of January.

The statement reads, “After an exhaustive meeting, the angered people of the community resolved that the leadership of King Thomas Nabhon Ako has failed the community and his reign has resulted in the division of the community and proliferation of Court cases between Families and other neighbours in the state.

“The people of the Community resolved and passed a vote of no confidence on him. The Community also resolved in the meeting that the King should be removed. The Community placed the issue of removal to vote and it was unanimously agreed that the King should be removed based on the outcome of the vote cast.

"The Community also elected Chief Ronami Ide as new Regent. Henceforth, nobody should deal with Nabhon Thomas Ako as the king.”
