The grandson of a former Defense Minister, the late Njenga Karume’s grandson has been arrested over the death of his fiancée, The Star Kenya reports.
The man identified as Kenneth Wathugi Karume has been accused of murdering the fiancee by pushing her off the fourth balcony. Karume, a trained pilot is the first born son of the late Joe Karume – a first born son of the late Kiambu tycoon.
The report states that the 30-year-old Mumbi Kalungia is said to have fallen to his death from the fourth floor of an apartment in Kiambu on Thursday night during an argument with the boyfriend.
It was gathered that the couple had just arrived at home after a night out when Mumbi started shouting for help before going silent.
When neigbours were interrogated, they revealed that there was commotion outside the suspect's house before the death of the lady. The dead body of the lady was later found outside the compound of the apartment.
Karume, 30, however claims that Mumbi jumped off the balcony by herself. He was arrested on the balcony of their house as he tried to flee, The Star reports, claiming he had done nothing wrong. Police are also investigating possibilities that Mumbi could have been pushed to her death following the disagreement with Karume.
Kiambu deputy police boss Johson Lyabila confirmed Karume’s arrest but declined to comment further.
